My Work Lately

Well I finely did it. I pieced together some of the stuff I have been working on at work. My last post showed off a promo I made for one of our services but most of the work I do is for our Lobby TV and Digital Menu Board. Unfortunately I can't post those full videos since they could then be copied off and used by someone else. I guess that's the nice things about promo videos, they are intended to be seen by as many people as possible.

One of the new tools I have had at my disposal lately is a plugin for after effects called Element 3D. It has been a great tool to add 3D into the AE workflow. While it does not come close to matching the potential of full fledged 3D programs like Maya, it does offer surprisingly high quality renders for the amount of time it takes to use. There are a few shots in this video that were rendered with Element 3D.

So I didn't do any fancy editing or add music to this video. I just cut out some of the nicer shots I made. Most of the 3D models were created by my coworkers.

AutoNetTV

It has been a while since I have posted anything here but that does not mean I have been slacking. About four moths ago I started a new job at AutoNetTV.  If you a want to find out more about the company follow the link:   http://www.autonettv.com/

It has been a great job so far. We have a small team of guys on the production team. Two guys work almost strictly in 3D. They model all kinds of auto parts that we use for the videos. They also will texture, light and animate as well. Most of the time those assets that they create are then passed to me where I composite them in After Effects with other elements to create the final look of the video. Some videos I will make from scratch, some will utilize elements from the 3D team, sometimes video footage will be used. Our manager also works with graphics and also does the audio for our videos. He is also the main guy when we have to film for our productions. We have a studio on site where many of our videos have been shot but he does a lot of off site filming as needed. Check out some of the videos on the website and anything not animated he was probably behind the camera (he of course has done most of the animated stuff as well).

Most of the work I do is content for our network which means I can't just post the full video on my blog like a have done with the promo spots I work on. I will try to cut together some clips in the near future to show off some of the content I have worked on. For today I have I promo I made for our Digital Menu Board that we launched within the last couple of months.

Enjoy.

Connection Compass Update

So last fall I made a video for Connection Compass (I think I didn't get it posted until January). This week we had an event that was cosponsored by Lime for Connection Compass. For the event I got to update the earlier version since they wanted some text to be presented on the event. I had a day to work on this which was a little easier since the style, font and overall look would be similar to the last video. Still for a day I thought it turned out nice.
I used particle world in After Effects to create the stars. Used the same theme of glow and colors and then a coworker merged the two videos together and reworked the music.

Sundance

Last week Lime had a booth at Sundance which gave us the opportunity to market ourselves to filmmakers and others in attendance. For the event I was given the opportunity to make a video with several different title sequences to show off what we can do. Unfortunately I only had a week and a half to work on it but I think it turned out very nice. We took the theme from some obvious films which are well known and made new titles for them. They do not go any further than bringing in the title but it gives a good idea of the different directions we could go.

Branding, Tech and Marketing

Lime decided to have us make some videos that could go up on our new website which would explane what we can do for our clients. These three videos are the result. This is what I was working on from mid November or so through the end of December.

Feel free to check out our website

Dead Drop

This is a promo video for a game we are making for the iPhone. It looks like it should be a fun game. The video was sure fun to work on. It was great to get back into Maya and make the city. This video took a lot more compositing. It was a bit tricky to use the sketch textures to make the city have the look it does. I think the final result was worth it.

The List

On the heals of our success with the Scan video (a few posts back) we got another client who wanted their own video with live action footage and graphics worked in to it. I had the chance once again to work on motion tracking and compositing graphics into the footage. Keep an eye out for the graphics I added, they're very subtle!

Ha, just kidding. Those billboards were not there to start with!
